Area Rugs are more than just a piece of hand-woven cloth. Thatâ€™s one of the things that my mother would always stress whenever she talks about her beloved collection of rugs. Yes, while some people have a fascination in collecting stamps, my mother is addicted in collecting area rugs. In every imaginable color, design, material and shape, her collection is something that is worth the pride she exudes whenever she talks about it. The funny thing is, with a collection of almost fifty area rugs, what she actually uses only revolves around 3 different pieces. That is because only those three pieces goes well with the color scheme of our living room. Iâ€™ve always asked her: why she is so fascinated with rugs? She says that the answer is simple; with the intricate designs of her collection, it must mean that the person who designed and made that piece has put so much effort and artistry in producing the rug. The design, the texture, the material and the colors of each piece has a story of its own. It speaks of culture and history. For her, it is as much of a masterpiece just like any Rembrant or Monet collection. I was also concerned about the investment she puts into it. When I look into each piece in her collection, I often wonder how expensive they might be since they are really gorgeous pieces. But my mom would always defend herself. Hers is also a collection of cheap rugs. It is a requirement that to be part of her collection, the rug must be affordable. Intricacy of the design added with an affordable price, that makes her collected pieces really a hard-to-find item. My motherâ€™s rug collection thus bring a certain joy and you can see that in the look of her eyes whenever she talks about them and shows that collection to her friends.
